How to Choose Your Nautilus Mod

Pre-built watch vs. custom build: Our pre-built Nautilus watches ship fully assembled with movement, dial, hands, and strap — ready to wear out of the box. If you want to choose your own dial color, hands, or strap, browse the individual parts below and build from scratch using our complete build guide.

Movement choice: The NH35/NH36 gives you a solid, reliable automatic movement with a date complication. The NH72 is the skeleton variant — choose this if you want visible mechanics through an open-worked dial. All Nautilus cases accept both.

Case finish: Available in silver (brushed steel), gold (PVD), rose gold (PVD), and black (DLC). The brushed-to-polished transition on the bezel is consistent across finishes. Silver is the most versatile; gold and rose gold make a stronger statement.

Strap vs. bracelet: Nautilus watches come with rubber straps (gray, green, or black depending on model). The integrated lug design means standard straps don't fit — use Nautilus-specific straps with 20 mm lug width.

      Frequently Asked Questions

What movements are compatible with Nautilus cases?

All Nautilus cases accept NH35, NH36, NH38, NH70, NH71, and NH72 movements. The skeleton builds use the NH72 for visible mechanics through the dial. All cases use a 3 o'clock crown position — they are NOT compatible with 4 o'clock SKX-style stems or 7S26/7S36 movements.

What size dial fits a Nautilus case?

Nautilus cases accept 28.5 mm dials as a direct fit. Unlike some Royal Oak cases, they do not accept 30.8 mm dials. Read our dial size guide for more on choosing the right dial.

Are Nautilus mods good for a first Seiko mod build?

Yes — our pre-built Nautilus watches require no assembly at all. If you want to build your own, the Nautilus case is straightforward: crystal and gaskets come pre-installed, and the case accepts standard NH-series movements without modification. Read our step-by-step build guide before starting.

What else do I need to complete a Nautilus build?

Beyond the case, you need a compatible movement (NH35 or NH72), a 28.5 mm dial, a set of hands, and a strap (20 mm lug width). You will also need basic tools: a case opener, hand press, and stem cutter. Browse our Nautilus parts collection to find matching components.
