In a sea of homages and look-alikes, the Petrichor offers a fresh and distinctive foundation for your next Seiko mod. Heavily inspired by the best of 1970s horology, the case combines key design elements such as a domed sapphire crystal, oversized crown, and quick-adjustment buckle—balancing character, wearability, and function.

Complete Your Build

The Gunmetal Gray Petrichor sits between the bright silver and the deep black — a darker, industrial-leaning tone that reads as serious without going fully stealth. The same 37 mm Nomods original design with vintage-inspired curves, domed sapphire crystal, and low-profile silhouette, finished in gunmetal gray PVD over 316L stainless steel. The gray tone has a subtle metallic depth that shifts in different lighting, darker indoors and more reflective in sunlight. Compatible with NH35 and NH36 movements, 28.5 mm dial opening, ready to build.

Compatibility

Movements: NH35 and NH36. The NH72 skeleton movement also fits, sharing the same physical dimensions. The gunmetal gray provides a neutral backdrop that lets a skeleton dial’s exposed mechanics stand out without competing with a warm or bright case color.

Dials: 28.5 mm. Gunmetal gray is a neutral tone that pairs with almost any dial color. Silver and white dials create clean combinations, while blue or green dials add a single pop of color against the muted case.

Hands: Any NH-series compatible hands (hour 1.50 mm, minute 0.88 mm, seconds 0.20 mm). Silver hands offer the best legibility; darker hands blend into the case for a subdued look.

What’s Included

  • Petrichor case body (316L stainless steel, gunmetal gray PVD finish)
  • Domed sapphire crystal (pre-installed)
  • Crown (screw-down)

  • Integrated stainless steel bracelet (gunmetal gray PVD)

Tools are not included. You will need a case opener, hand press, stem cutter, and movement holder for assembly.

Designed by Nomods

Gunmetal gray is the most modern-leaning finish in the Petrichor range. Where the silver, gold, and rose gold variants lean into the case’s vintage design roots, the gunmetal gray pushes it toward a contemporary tool-watch sensibility. The PVD coating is applied via Physical Vapor Deposition for durability that matches or exceeds the other Petrichor finishes. On the Petrichor’s curved surfaces, the gray creates a unique optical effect — the tone appears to darken in concave areas and lighten on convex surfaces, giving the case a three-dimensional quality that flat-sided cases cannot reproduce. The domed sapphire crystal maintains the seamless, flowing profile. Each case is inspected for PVD uniformity and finishing consistency before shipping.

Frequently Asked Questions

What movements fit the Petrichor case?

The NH35 and NH36 movements. The NH72 skeleton movement also fits, as it shares the same case dimensions as the NH35. The gunmetal gray case provides a neutral frame that works well with both solid and skeleton dials.

What dial size fits the Petrichor?

28.5 mm dials. This includes Royal Oak style dials, waffle dials, and other aftermarket 28.5 mm dials designed for NH35-based builds. Avoid 30.8 mm dials — they are too large for the 37 mm Petrichor case.

How does gunmetal gray compare to the black PVD Petrichor?

The gunmetal gray is lighter and more metallic-looking than the black PVD. It reads as a dark silver rather than true black. Scratches are also less visible on gunmetal because the contrast between the coating and the steel beneath is smaller. If you want maximum stealth, choose the Black PVD Petrichor. If you want a darker case that still shows some metallic character, gunmetal gray is the better choice.

Is the Petrichor a Royal Oak homage?

No. The Petrichor is an original Nomods design. It does not replicate the Royal Oak, Nautilus, or any other existing watch. The design takes broad inspiration from 1960s and 1970s vintage case aesthetics, but its specific shape, curves, and proportions are entirely our own.
