The Royal Oak 41 mm case is about proportion and presence. Designed as a larger integrated case for Seiko modding, it keeps the sharp geometry and clean lines of its inspiration while being properly scaled for the wrist. Every surface is finished with purpose, creating a case that feels solid, balanced, and confident—built to be worn, not just looked at.

The Black PVD Royal Oak 41mm is the stealth option in the 41 mm range — the same sharp octagonal bezel geometry and polished rehaut as the silver version, now in a matte black PVD coating over 316L stainless steel. The black finish absorbs light across the brushed mid-case while the polished bezel bevels and rehaut provide controlled reflections that define the case shape. At 41 mm diameter with a 51 mm lug-to-lug span, this is a large, commanding case that wears dark and low-key. Sapphire crystal in Blue AR, Clear AR, or No AR, screw-down crown, and 100 m water resistance. Fits NH35, NH38, NH70, NH71, and NH72 movements. Includes a spacer ring for 30.8 mm dials.

Compatibility

Movements: NH35, NH38, NH70, NH71, NH72 — all drop in without modification. The black case works particularly well with skeleton movements where the dark case frames the exposed mechanics.

Dials: 30.8 mm dials fit with the included spacer ring. 31.8 mm dials fit directly. Both silver-tone and gold-tone dials create strong contrast against the black PVD case.

Hands: Longer handsets are recommended for the 41 mm dial opening. Silver or white-lumed hands create the best legibility against the dark case. The Royal Oak Silver Hands provide maximum contrast.

Straps: 22 mm lug width. The black rubber strap creates a fully blacked-out build. Compatible with any standard 22 mm strap or NATO.

What’s Included

  • Case body (316L stainless steel, black PVD coating)
  • Sapphire crystal (pre-installed, variant-dependent AR coating)
  • Spacer ring (for 30.8 mm dials)
  • Screw-down crown
  • Caseback gasket and crystal gasket
  • Spring bars

Movement, dial, hands, strap, and tools are not included.

Why We Chose This Case

Black PVD watches are one of the most searched-for categories in Seiko modding, and the Royal Oak 41mm Black PVD delivers the look without compromise. PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating is significantly more durable than standard black plating or DLC alternatives at this price point — it resists scratching through daily wear and maintains its matte character over time. The polished rehaut and bezel bevels are left exposed under the PVD coating, creating a subtle interplay between matte black surfaces and reflective edges. This is the case for modders building an all-black or high-contrast Royal Oak where the case disappears and the dial becomes the focal point.

Frequently Asked Questions

What movements fit the Royal Oak 41mm case?

The NH35, NH38, NH70, NH71, and NH72 all fit without modification. These cover standard automatic, skeleton, and open-heart configurations from the Seiko NH movement family.

What dial size fits this case?

30.8 mm dials fit with the included spacer ring. 31.8 mm dials fit directly without the spacer. Both silver and gold dials work well — the black PVD case provides a dark frame that makes any dial color stand out.

Will the black PVD coating scratch or chip?

PVD coating is more durable than standard black plating. It resists scratches through normal daily wear. Deep impacts can expose the steel underneath. Avoid abrasive surfaces and be careful with metal tools during assembly. If you want maximum scratch resistance, the Silver version in natural stainless steel is the most forgiving finish.

What handset should I use with the 41mm case?

Use longer hands designed for larger dial openings. For maximum legibility against the dark case, silver or white-lumed hands work best. The Royal Oak Silver Hands create strong contrast. Gold hands also work well for a two-tone black-and-gold aesthetic.
