The V2 Ultrathin Royal Oak case in gold PVD — bold, warm yellow-gold over 316L stainless steel with a slim 9.95 mm profile. The gold finish transforms the angular octagonal bezel and integrated lugs into a statement piece that catches light across every brushed surface and polished bevel. At 37 mm diameter and 48 mm lug-to-lug, the proportions stay refined rather than oversized. Sapphire crystal with blue or clear AR coating, screw-down signed crown, and 100 m water resistance. Compatible with NH35, NH36, NH38, NH70, NH71, and NH72 movements. Available with solid or exhibition caseback.

Compatibility

Movements: NH35, NH36, NH38, NH70, NH71, NH72. Standard Seiko NH-family movements with a 3 o’clock crown position. Not compatible with 7S26 or 7S36 due to different stem specifications.

Dials: 28.5 mm direct fit. A gold or champagne dial creates a monochrome gold look, while a dark dial against the gold case produces high-contrast two-tone character.

Bracelet: The Royal Oak 37mm bracelet connects via the 20 mm lug width. A gold bracelet option completes the full gold build.

Why the V2 Ultrathin

The V2 Ultrathin platform was redesigned to bring the thickness down to 9.95 mm without losing 100 m water resistance — a combination that most Royal Oak-inspired cases cannot match. The gold PVD finish is the boldest color option in the V2 range, turning the angular octagonal geometry into something unmistakably warm and luxurious. The gold coating catches light on every flat brushed surface and polished edge, emphasizing the case’s architectural lines. When paired with a gold skeleton dial and an NH72 movement, the golden bridges of the movement visually merge with the case and dial for a fully unified gold aesthetic from bezel to rotor.

Build Guide

Difficulty: Moderate — standard Seiko mod build. Tools needed: caseback opener, hand press or hand setting tool, stem cutter, movement holder, and rodico.

Key notes: The gold PVD surface can show tool marks more easily than brushed steel. Work on a soft surface and use a movement cushion during assembly. The exhibition caseback adds 0.35 mm total thickness. Stem cutting accuracy is critical — measure against the case before cutting.

Frequently Asked Questions

What movements fit this case?

The Royal Oak 37mm V2 case accepts NH35, NH36, NH38, NH70, NH71, and NH72 movements. All Seiko NH-family movements share the same case fitment. The 7S26 and 7S36 are not compatible due to a different stem.

What is the difference between solid and exhibition caseback?

The solid caseback keeps the case at its thinnest — 9.95 mm — with a seamless gold back. The exhibition caseback has a sapphire display window that shows the movement, adding 0.35 mm for a total of 10.3 mm. Both maintain 100 m water resistance.

Will the gold PVD coating wear off?

PVD coatings are highly durable for daily wear. Deep scratches or impacts can expose the silver steel underneath, creating visible contrast on a gold surface. Normal wear will not affect the finish. For maximum scratch tolerance, the silver case requires no coating at all.

How does the V2 compare to the V1?

The V2 is significantly thinner at 9.95 mm versus the V1’s thicker profile, with improved finishing on the bezel bevels and brushed surfaces. The overall 37 mm diameter, movement compatibility, and water resistance remain the same.

What Inspires This Case

The Gold Royal Oak 37mm Seiko Modding Case was designed to capture a different side of the Seikoak concept — not stealthy or understated, but bold and expressive. We wanted to see how the classic Seiko Royal Oak form would behave when paired with a bright metallic tone. The result is a case that feels closer to jewelry than tool watch, yet still retains the sharp transitions and integrated geometry that define the Seikoak silhouette.

The brushed surfaces keep the tone from becoming too glossy, while the polished bevels reflect light in thin, deliberate lines — something we spent a lot of time refining to make sure the reflections flow consistently around the case. The matching gold caseback was added later in development, after testing how different finishes interacted with open-heart NH72 builds. Together they give this Seiko Modding case a uniform warmth that makes skeleton movements stand out more clearly against the dial.

Why 37mm Is Perfectly Proportioned

We stayed with the 37mm format because it continues to be the most balanced size for 28.5mm Seiko dials. Anything larger pushes the dial too far inward and breaks the proportion that gives the Seikoak Mod its signature wrist presence. At 37mm, the rehaut spacing looks correct, the dial feels framed rather than floating, and the overall stance remains faithful to the compact Royal Oak profile that inspired the build in the first place.

This size also keeps the Seiko mod parts working exactly as intended — proper hand clearance, correct stem height, and even gasket compression for 100-meter water resistance. It’s a platform that lets Seiko modders explore brighter, more luxurious tones without compromising fit or technical integrity. The result is a Seiko Royal Oak mod that feels confident, precise, and unapologetically bold.
